Who we are
Ferin Davis Anderson is an ecologist, founder of Omakakii LLC, and an enrolled citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa/Ojibwe/Anishinaabe/Michifs in North Dakota. She is committed to reciprocal land stewardship and holistic ecological restoration that honors both culture and science. Ferin’s work bridges ecological science with traditional knowledge and practices, cultural fire, and community collaboration to create resilient ecosystems and strengthen human-land relationships. Through Omakakii LLC, she shares strategies for integrating Indigenous knowledge and community engagement into restoration efforts, helping people reconnect with the landscapes they care for and fostering a more inclusive approach to conservation.
Ferin is also the co-author of Wildfire: The Culture, Science, and Future of Fire. A book exploring the science of wildfires, the history of fire in the United States, and the relationship Indigenous people have with fire. She is passionate about sharing the positive benefits fire holds.
